About Sharon

Sharon A. Williams has been an attorney in Oregon since 1985. Her practice focused exclusively in divorce and family law matters beginning in 1989 with experience in real estate, estate planning and other areas of the law prior to 1989. Sharon is a graduate of Portland State University, with a Bachelors of Science in Political Science with honors.

She obtained her legal degree from Willamette University in 1985. She has been a Board member of the Oregon Academy of Family Law Practioners since 2004 to the present  and was selected to serve as President of that organization for the years of 2006 through 2008. Sharon also was selected to become a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in 2005 and served as President of the Oregon Chapter from 2017 through 2020 and remains on the Executive Committee presently. 

After many years of participating in mediation with clients, Sharon decided to train to become a mediator herself and after participating in various courses, she began serving as a mediator in the divorce and family law field and has focused on that part of her professional development during the past several years. She has also trained to be a mediator in probate and elder law disputes as well.

Sharon is a member of the Oregon Mediation Association and adheres to it's principles and guidelines in her mediation practice. She also was appointed to serve on the Executive Committee for the Alternative Dispute Resolution section of the Oregon State Bar for three years from 2008 through 2011 as well as on the Multnomah County Mediation Commission. She has been selected by two publications, SuperLawyer's magazine and "The Best Lawyers in America" for inclusion in their Alternative Dispute Resolution section beginning in 2006 to the present time.  Sharon has been named the 2016, 2018 and 2020 Portland Family Law Mediator of the Year by "The Best Lawyers in America" and one of the top 25 Women Lawyers in Oregon by "Superlawyers" in 2014 and 2016.  In addition, Sharon attended a week long International Family Mediator Training in Washington, D.C. for international custody and family law matters.

In addition to in person mediations and especially during the pandemic Sharon is skilled at conducting mediations via Zoom or teleconferencing .
